Hiking in a rainy weather is different than hiking in any other weather condition. There are plenty of things to consider when you’re planning your next adventure wherever it is, but the weather should almost always be on top of the list. Rainy weather could easily ruin your whole trip, but we’ve made a list of essential gear for hiking in the rain, to make sure that the unpleasant rainy weather is not going to ruin a trip that’s been planned for weeks or months in advance.

Considering you’re already familiar with the list of essential gear for hiking in the rain, this time – in this list we’re going to talk about some of the best hats for hiking in the rain. Obviously there are two main things that you’d want to take care of the most when you’re out and about in the nature and these two are – your feet and your head. In order to keep your feet dry and not get sick, there are a bunch of waterproof hiking boots out on the market and we’ve got a list of the best hiking boots for men so you can get this part covered accordingly as well. If you already have boots or shoes that are waterproof and will get you anywhere you want, the next thing you might want to consider is your head and more specifically – a hat which will keep you dry at all times. There isn’t a shortage of models in this category either and we’ve summed up some of the best ones out there. Different people have different requirements for their hats and that’s why we’ve picked a few different hat styles for you to pick out from. Although there’s a wide diversity of hats, the truth is that two companies stand out as the ones offering the best in terms of water resistance, pricing and most importantly their ability to keep your face dry.

Although there aren’t many significant differences between male and female models, we have picked 3 models for women and 2 for the men out there, that are smart enough to get this handy piece of essential gear for anyone that loves hiking and trekking.

Men and women have different requirements from their gear, but when you’re out there in the nature style isn’t the most important thing for either sex. That’s why we have only picked one waterproof hat for hiking which could be considered more stylish. That’s the Carhartt Women’s Rockford Rain Hat. The other 4 models are as follows:

  • 1 Men’s waterproof hat from Columbia
  • 1 Female waterproof hat from Columbia
  • 1 Outdoor Research waterproof hat for men
  • 1 Outdoor research waterproof hat for women

So here we go, hopefully, you will find the best hat for hiking in the rain that suites you

Eminent storm waterproof hiking hat for rain by Columbia
Columbia Wateproof hat for hiking – Eminent storm

The first model that we’ve got is the Columbia Men’s Eminent Storm Booney Hat, Fossil, One Size. Made out of Nylon and 100% waterproof this hat has adjustable straps that make it’s one size adjustable enough to fit any head. It also has an adjustable drawcord and toggle at the back and is also completely breathable so if the weather is hot and the humidity is high, you won’t be sweating that bad in it. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still and even though it’s made out of durable and breathable high-tec materials it doesn’t mean that you will feel as if you didn’t have anything on your head, but it’s definitely worth it, considering how well it will keep your head dry. At a price point of about $45, this hat is not the most expensive option you could pick from our list. As you would expect from any Columbia® product, the quality is high and gets a 5 out of 5 stars on our quality test. This hat in particular will keep your head dry even in heavy snowing and as works like a charm if you’re walking your dog in the rainy Autumn months or the early Spring as well. So if you want a rain hat that will be a good fit even out of the hiking trails, the Columbia Men’s Eminent Storm Booney Hat, is a great choice for you.

If you don’t like this model though, we’re just getting started and here’s the next model on our list.

Outdoor Research Misto Sombrero waterproof hiking hat
Outdoor Research Women’s Misto Sombrero Waterproof hat

The Outdoor Research Women’s Misto Sombrero Hat is our first pick when it comes to the best hat for hiking in the rain for women. There are a pink and a red models in the range of colors and the obvious black and khaki color which all hiking gear could be purchased in as well. What makes this rain hat stand out from the rest is that it has these Foam-Stiffened Brim Floats, which keep the hat and it’s shape intact at all times and the fact that it’s made out of amazingly durable waterproof and breathable polyester, just sweetens the deal for anyone who’s looking to purchase this hat.  The hat has a 4.8 out of 5 stars rating in all major retailers and for a good reason. It’s easily adjustable, repels rain easily and although it keeps your head dry, it won’t fry your brain in it with it’s breathable construction. Just like with the Columbia Storm hat, this one will be a great addition to any hiking gear you take with you, but will also be a good fit for women who like to take their dogs out in the rain. Outdoor Research is a brand on the rise and you will find more and more of their products reviewed on our website in the upcoming weeks. The price of this hat is different depending on the vendor you chose to buy it from, but isn’t too expensive for the average hiking lady. For no more than $60, you will definitely be getting your money’s worth from it.

Waterproof Hat Carhartt

On to the next one we’ve got the Carhartt Women’s Rockford Rain Hat which is the second model we’ve got here for the ladies. This model is a bit different as it doesn’t have such a large trim on the side, but it’s adjustable just like the other two models we talked about before, so it would fit almost any head. This model only comes in two different colors one of which is the standard black and the other a dark purple shade. The price of this model in particular is $26 at least on Amazon.com which is pretty low compared to the rest of the models. This hat though 100% waterproof, might not be such a good choice considering that it will only keep you head dry if there isn’t any wind involved. The short trim means that if the water is not falling down vertically at 90 degrees, there’s a serious chance that some of the rain will get in your face. The hat is made out of 100% Nylon and repels water easily.
